Angry Letter from Chevy- Volt may lose ability to maintain battery voltage

Opening paragraph (paraphrased) in letter dated June 2019 from Chevy ( signed by: Neelie O'Connor - Exec Dir - NAmer Contact Center Ops)

Your 2014 Volt may have a condition where it could gradually lose the ability to maintain its battery voltage. ....vehicle is designed to provide warning if batt loses ability to maintain its battery voltage. This software update is intended to increase the amount of time.....before your vehicle enters a reduced propulsion mode while driving, loses propulsion, or might not start!!!!

Anyone else get this letter? Anyone have a battery that is losing ability to maintain its battery voltage?

Looks like the lucky among us may have a real battery issue coming up. Just when I have been telling folks about how reliable and problem free this car is.

Took mine, 2015, in for software upgrade, took 40 minutes, no cost. Seems to have more acceleration. Got same notice as you only issue ever, 45K miles.

Who in the brain trust at GM decided to can the Volt?

Now that would be a pleasant surprise!!

"Who in the brain trust at GM decided to can the Volt?"

From what I read, the bean-counters at Chevy said the Volt was too expensive to build. I say BS! The Volt was, and could've been, the easiest hybrid to own with good looks, excellent reliability, quick acceleration if you wanted to play, no concern about running out of battery or finding a charging station, and with the carmaker could have reduced mfg costs by making ongoing improvements and incorporating new technology (cheaper but better batteries).

I love my Volt and hate the thought of it growing old but have my eye on finding a newer one with low mileage and putting it in the garage until the '14 becomes a problem.

This was no surprise after last year's aborted attempt to install "Battery Monitoring Software" that would communicate back the Chevy HQ. Apparently someone got too far out over their skis & got pulled back.

My 2014 battery capacity seems to be holding fine.

I've had a few propulsion reduced messages. It seems to happen intermittently after I've exhausted the charge, run on gas, and stopped for an hour and restarted. The message pops up, I start driving, the gas engine makes a lot of noise, and in a few minutes things get back to normal. Most of the time I park the car and recharge right away, so it's a sporadic issue for me. I have had all the updates. I'm still getting about 37 miles per charge in my 2013 Volt, and about 40 MPG on gas.
