Check Engine Light Senerio
I have a 2013 Chevy Volt and have 1150 miles on the odometer thus far. A few days ago, I experienced a "Check Engine" light on the Driver
Information Center as I was driving up to my home. I entered the garage and then commenced to plug in my Level 2 GE charger into the charge port. I noticed that the charger aborted the charge and was followed by a rapid blinking red light on the charger. I tried again the with the same result. I then waited approximately one half hour before trying a third time. This time the charger functioned properly and the charge completed without further incident. I then looked through the car documentation for any recommendations to possibly rectify the "Check Engine" light. It was recommended to reseat the gas cap and fill the gas tank to possibly eliminate the problem. Neither effort extinguished the light. I then found out that with the car in park and idling, you can contact Onstar from the car and they will perform a diagnostics test on the complete system to find any possible faults. As I backed the car out of the garage to do this, the Driver Information Center went totally black and the Center Stack Display dimed and then restored itself. Onstar found two faults. One was with the charging system and the other was with the electrical module controller. I used the car last night for a meeting and when I was returning home after the meeting, the "Check Engine" light had extingushed itself. This morning, I left for work and the light remained off. I decided to pull off into a mall parking lot and have Onstar retest the car for any anomalies. They reported that there were no issues with the car. I then talked to the Dealer that I purchased the car from and they said that without an indicated fault, they could not pursue any course of action. I would like to know if anyone has experienced anything like this with their Volt???

I have not encountered that yet but is there anything unusual that you did the day of the occurrence?

Hello VOLTpower,
Not that I am aware of. I have had some mine issues with connecting the GE Level 2 charging station and the vehicle. Every so often, the charging station would trip out when I connected it. I found that if I waited a minute or so after resetting the charger, that the issue resoled itself. I have read in another forum, that there is some handshaking involved when you connect the station to the car and if the handshaking is not successful, this can happen. Also, I'm not sure, but a few error codes may result from this event that illuminates the Check Engine Light. The two codes are, P0D3E and P1E00. These codes are collected from the OnStar agent when you have them perform diagnostics on the car. This has happened to me twice so far.

I bought my VOLT in Dec.2012, three months the check engine light came on. The volt was flatbedded to the dealer. They said that was low on freon, but no leak. A few weeks later it happened again, I drove it to the dealer, low on freon , no leaks. The next time they put a new sensor on the car. The car charged for long periods of time. Took it back while on vacation for a week and they said the charging settings times were wrong. Started driving it home the A/C didn't work and the check engine came on again. Taking it back to the dealer again 7/19/13/. Advice anyone?

Low Freon Issue
I wasn't aware that a freon problem would lead to the situation that you are experiencing. The only thing I can image is that the cooling system that cools the car's cabin is part of the same system that conditions the lithium battery and as a result, causes the car to become inoperable. Please let us know what the resolution of your issue will be. Good luck.
